We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.

KBR is looking for a Project Engineer to support at NASA/Johnson Space Center

Position Description and Responsibilities

The Mission Systems Operations Contract (MSOC) at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) has an opening for a Project Engineer (PE) to facilitate changes to JSC’s mission systems which include the Mission Control Center (MCC), the Mission Training Center (MTC), and the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF).

The PE role is responsible for working with the NASA customer and MSOC personnel to determine critical milestones for the NASA program they are supporting (e.g., ISS, Artemis, HLS, Gateway, EHP, etc.) and to identify the changes required to the MCC, MTC, or SVMF facilities to support the program milestones. With those changes identified, the PE is then responsible for working with the engineers to ensure that the requirements are documented via Change Requests (CRs), approved by NASA for implementation, and implemented on schedule.

During implementation, the PE is responsible for tracking the progress of the various CRs and working with Integrated Product Teams consisting of engineers and test/integration personnel to ensure the work is proceeding on schedule. The PE is required to build schedules and provide status on those schedules to NASA management and MSOC contract leadership, including any issues and risks that the project is facing (and how those might be addressed or mitigated).

The PE may perform other tasks, as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. from an accredited university in a science/technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, etc.)
  • 7 years of professional experience in a technology-related field
  • 2 years of technical leadership or integration of technical teams
  • Must be able to pass a government background check and meet basic security clearance requirements.
  • This generally requires the candidate to be a U.S. citizen.

Required Skills:

  • Good analytical skills
  • The ability to analyze problems, break them down into solvable pieces, and create a plan for resolving the problems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, whether verbally or via email and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • This role involves lots of interaction with both engineers and management.
  • Team leadership/integration skills
  • This role involves leading and integrating teams of people with diverse skills and personalities.
  • Initiative
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently without significant oversight.

Highly Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Project management skills
  • While this role is not, strictly speaking, responsible for managing budget, there is the requirement to manage project tasks and schedule with an awareness of the associated budget implications.
  • Persistence
  • This role often requires the person to be persistent in asking questions and finding the answers necessary to better understand the status of the project being managed.
  • Technical experience
  • Experience in software development, computer hardware development/management, or operating systems.
  • Experience with Agile-focused tools, such as Agility and VersionOne.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office tool suite.
